UPCOMMING MUNICIPAL ELECTION INFORMATION:

The following offices will become vacant due to the expiration of the present term of office of the elective officer:

  • One Council person, Ward One-Two Year term
  • One Council person, Ward Two-Two Year term
  • One Council person, Ward Two-One Year term
  • One Council person, Ward Three-Two Year term
  • One Council person, Ward Four-Two Year term

Circulation of nomination petitions will begin on January 25th, 2008, and petitions may be filed in the office of the Finance Officer located at 504 River Drive between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm CST, not later than the 29th day of February, 2008.

Deadline for voter registration is March 24th, 2008

Election Day April 8th, 2008.  Polls will be open from 7:00am through 7:00pm.


The warmth of its people and the natural beauty of the area make business and leisure visitors welcome in all of the North Sioux City area. Wildlife viewing , walking and biking trails, Adams Nature Center, fishing and hunting are some of the recreational opportunities offered in the region.

Our Governing Body

The City of North Sioux City is governed by an Aldermanic form of government. Its eight-member Council is elected into office by City residents and holds the responsibility of determining City policy.

City residents have the right to participate in activities promoted by the City, including the election of City Officials. There are several committees appointed by City Council and each resident is encouraged to apply.


North Sioux City has adopted a new Storm Water Ordinance
as required by the Federal Clean Water Act. The Ordinance may be found under the “Ordinances” heading. The City has an approved Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP) and is assigned Permit No. SDR41A011 as issued by the South Dakota Department of Natural Resources.

The goal of the Ordinance is to eliminate erosion, sediment and pollution in the storm waters which flow to McCook Lake and the Big Sioux River.

To achieve the desired results, the City will require a Storm Water Permit along with the Building Permit to be issued for future projects.

How to Get Here
North Sioux City is part of a tri-state area, which includes Sioux City, Iowa and South Sioux City, Nebraska, and is bordered on the southwest by the Missouri River and on the more southern border by the Big Sioux River. Across the Big Sioux River from Sioux City, Iowa, or across the Missouri River from South Sioux City, Nebraska, Interstate I-29 runs through the City of North Sioux City. The City is located at Exits 2 and 4.
